Formal Ballroom Wedding at Palmilla

When we think of dream wedding locations in Los Cabos, we immediately think of One&Only Palmilla. We love Palmilla not only for its lush, green landscape and spectacular beach location, but also for its over-the-top luxurious service and meticulous attention to detail. As you can imagine, Carlos and I have designed many beautiful weddings at One&Only Palmilla over the past ten years. Over those years we have created parties in just about every stylish space the resort has to offer (and we’re talking about every nook and cranny!). Luckily, Palmilla can really make brides and grooms’ dreams come true as they can host weddings inside or out: in the Chapel, on the beach, on the terrace, in the ballroom, etcetera, and, of course, any combination of these spaces that you can imagine!

For Jessica and Howard, two love birds who flew in to Los Cabos from Texas for a whole destination wedding weekend extravaganza, we designed parties from one gorgeous end of Palmilla to another. All starting with a Welcome Dinner near the Agua Pool with tables of bright, happy orange Gerbera Daisies; and a Rehearsal Dinner on the Chapel Terrace with long, rustic wooden tables dressed with vintage vases filled with white Lisianthus, Roses and Ranunculus; and the Wedding Ceremony in the Chapel followed by a glamorous Dinner Dance Reception in the Bahia Ballroom. Not to mention the After Hours around the Bahia Fireplace and the Sunday Brunch with all peach flowers, and oh so much more!

Jessica and Howard were very clear on the style of the wedding they desired, “near the beach but not on the beach” and “filled with Mexican cosmopolitan culture and elegance,” so, of course, One&Only Palmilla truly was ideal for their wedding celebration. While they could enjoy the beautiful beaches at Palmilla during the wedding weekend, they could host their wedding ceremony in the traditional, Mexican style Chapel. Their cocktail reception could be held at sunset, on terraces overlooking the pounding surf and their wedding reception could be held under dramatic chandeliers in an air-conditioned grand ballroom. For this savvy bride and groom, Palmilla was right from the moment they saw it.

As usual, it was a pleasure working with the efficient wedding planning team from Signature Event Consulting & Design, as well as the dynamic and AH-MAZING One&Only Palmilla catering team who never EVER miss a beat! From start to finish, it was truly fabulous and we were thrilled to layer each event space with our floral designs! The wedding ceremony was held on the stone steps of The Chapel and we hung lush, floral garlands down the iron railings to offer a powerful decorative statement to the 100 guests watching below. Open Casablanca Lilies, Garden Roses, Tulips, and Phalaeonpsis Orchids were used in the garlands and on tall floral arrangements to flank the bride and groom. Just a light dusting of creamy white rose petals fell on the steps and aisle for added romance. And, we tied bouquets of white tulips on chairs lining the main ceremony aisle to note family rows and the significance of the bride’s entrance. The fragrance was absolutely magical!

For the bride, we designed a over-sized, hand-tied bridal bouquet of Black Magic Red Roses. Set against her mermaid-style ivory lace wedding gown, the effect was striking and hinted at the rich color palette still to come in the wedding reception.

Even their signature cocktails tied back to the color palette beautifully! But once the guests entered the Bahia Ballroom and saw the incredible event space, you could hear them catch their breaths as the room was indeed BREATHTAKING. Deep rich reds, burgundies, and hot pinks were layered with classic champagne linens and warm amber lighting for a timeless elegance. The floor to ceiling drapes added a whole other dimension of opulence and sophistication that solidified the event as glamorous!

For the table centerpieces, we created a mix of low and high floral arrangements placed in an aesthetically-pleasing pattern across the ballroom. Each floral centerpiece was composed in modern glass vases using tightly arranged bouquets of Red Roses and Pink Orchids. Weathered platinum glass votive candles were placed around each arrangement and soft, ambient lighting effects washed the tables to highlight the rich floral designs. For the bride and groom we designed an all-creamy white sweetheart table with a long lush floral display.

We particularly loved the glossy white dance floor in the middle of the ballroom, as well as the clear Lucite Ghost Chairs around each dinner table. And, as usual, the Pastry Chef at the One&Only Palmilla didn’t disappoint with this contemporary white petal stacked wedding cake! It truly was a Red Haute and Pink Ballroom Wedding!
