Dia de los Muertos!
Dia de los Muertos is beginning here in Mexico!
The time for dancing devils and towering skeletons, all representing the centuries old, three-day festival of events that runs from October 31 through November 2. It’s a celebration of life, remembrance and worship.
This video is from Saturday’s amazing Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City, and it was extra special this year as it paid tribute to the 500 lost in the devastating earthquakes that hit Mexico in September.
One of the most moving moments of the parade was a parade float featuring a raised fist made out of helmets, pick axes and rubble – a tribute to the people who rushed to search for survivors in the aftermath of the quakes. The raised fist was used by rescue workers as a sign demanding silence as they listened for survivors in the rubble. Even more amazing was that hundreds of those rescue workers walked alongside the float with their fists raised in the air.
The festival is most closely associated with Mexico but it is also celebrated in several other South American and Caribbean countries, including Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Haiti.
Today, #TeamElenaDamy is paying tribute to those we have lost, and partaking of the traditional pan de muerto (bread of the dead) and hot chocolate.
