Do I Need Bridesmaids, or Not?

With a destination wedding, this is a question we get a lot. It’s an important question for today’s brides, particularly destination brides. “Do I need bridesmaids for my Cabo wedding?” or “How many bridesmaids should I have?” or “with a small wedding, are bridesmaids needed?” are all common questions that we hear from some of our clients. What advice do our wedding planners offer? “The answer is a personal one that each bride needs to answer for herself,” says Creative Director Elena Damy. “Destination or not, the bridesmaid is about support and friendship, not expectations or paybacks.” Of course, Claudia Morales believes “there is no other purpose for having a wedding party other than sharing love and laughter during this beautiful time in a woman’s life.” So, ask yourself honestly, think about it carefully, then ask yourself again. How many of your friends and/or family members genuinely fit that supportive bill? The answer should be your magic “maid” number, whether it matches the number of groomsmen, or not.

What is the Purpose of Having Bridesmaids?

Offering emotional support, thoughtful guidance, hands-on assistance, maybe some comical relief, a couple of reality checks here and there, as well as a whole lot of dance floor antics seems to be the consensus! Anything beyond that, like hosting bridal showers and bachelorette parties, is just a bonus. And, who says you can’t invite your mother, grandmother or baby sister to the {bridal} party? “Try not to succumb to societal norms and peer pressure when choosing your bridesmaids. Instead, think about who really has supported you in your life,” says Claudia.
