Terrace Wedding at Querencia
Some Love Goes the Distance
Some love goes to San José del Cabo, makes a stop at the Maldives and settles back in Dallas—or so it was for native Houstonian Becky Tanenbaum and Arizonan Jeff Mallace. The two first met at The Loon, an iconic bar in Dallas, Texas. Jeff, wanting to impress her on their initial date, got tickets to a Mavericks game before Becky, a principal at a commercial real estate developer, opened up and admitted she wasn’t a sporty gal. “We were in the second row of the game but didn’t watch a second of it,” Becky says. “We just talked the entire time. It was one of those great, perfect first dates.” So after three or four more sport dates and enough “playing it cool,” they took to their second love: travel.
The Love Story
From weekend getaways to friend’s weddings, from short road trips to spending an entire week in Mexico, before they knew it, an entire year had gone by. “I went on a two-week work trip, and while I was gone, we spoke daily,” Jeff, vice president at a marketing firm, says. “When I returned and we spent the weekend together, I just knew this was the person I wanted to be with for the rest of my life.” Wanting to respect Becky’s wishes of dating an entire year before getting engaged, he waited a year and four days. At a suite at The Crescent Hotel in Dallas, among myriad candles and flowers, he asked her to marry him.
The Wedding Inspiration
For Becky, it was important that their wedding felt like a vacation. And for Jeff, what mattered was that Becky’s every dream come to life. Working with Julian Leaver from The Dapper Diplomat, the couple set out to create a relaxing retreat at the Querencia Private Golf & Beach Club in Los Cabos, where Becky’s parents have owned a home for 20 years. For their 200 wedding guests, the bride and groom planned plenty of activities over the three-day destination wedding. Events that included a colorful Mexican-themed welcome reception at Becky’s parents’ home, a bridesmaids brunch and, a groomsmen’s golf tournament.
The Wedding Day Design
On the day of the wedding, white and green hydrangeas, white roses and white parrot tulips adorned each rustic-inspired tablescape at the reception. Candles floating in modern clear glass hurricanes, metallic aqua blue votives, and aqua blue goblets added a pop of bright color while Mexican piñatas swung in the breeze. Generous servings of Champagne and raspberry-flavored wedding cake were served to all, and everyone’s feet were exhausted from hours of lively dancing. It was one amazing celebration!
Then, Becky and Jeff jetted off on a honeymoon to the Maldives with a stop in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on the way.
